ABSTRACT

Recreation is seen as sporting activities, games, and fun activities which when legal and within the age range of the participant, can be engaged in during one’s leisure time either indoors or outdoors for fun and enjoyment. Young female undergraduate students just entering the university may have a hard time trying to settle in the university environment and recreational activities especially from sporting activities may prove very beneficial in ensuring that these female students are able to adapt quickly and become acclimated to the university environment. The population of the study comprised all the undergraduate female students of the faculty of Education in three selected departments of the faculty. From records, the total number of female students in Health, Safety and Environmental Education, Human Kinetics and Sports Science, Communication and information Technology department, the population is estimated to be 1,200. 116 respondents were randomly selected which represented about 10% of the entire population. Questionnaire designed by the researcher constitutes the major instrument for the study in gathering the data. The questionnaire was validated by the project supervisor and two other experts who were knowledgeable in test construction and instrumentation and its reliability was established to be 0.78 which shows high dependability of the instrument. Data was established using ANOVA.
