ABSTRACT
Rape is a worrisome epidemic that is becoming problematic in contemporary Nigeria due to many factors that are already inherent in the Nigerian society such as myths, culture of silence associated with rape, modernizing influences and peer group pressure among several others. Despite decades of feminist activism, men continue to rape women at appalling rates. Consequently, the review of related literatures was done to provide a good basis for the conclusion of this work. Similarly, the descriptive survey research design was employed and to ensure the attainment of the general aim, four (4) research questions were raised and the questionnaire which was tested and validated was adopt as the instrument for data collection. The data collected were analyzed using frequency count and simple percentage.
The finding of this study discovered that the perpetrators of rape in Nigeria cut across all age brackets involving security personnel, close associates, and even relations all caught up in the crime. The paper submits that the responsibility of eradicating this evil in Nigeria lies with the parents. Churches, Civil Societies, Non-Governmental Organizations and Government at all levels.
