ABSTRACT
The study investigated Reasons why many households prefer firewood for cooking in Ekosodin Community. To guide this study four research questions were raised.
The study adopted the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised of 347 households who uses firewood for cooking in Ekosodin Community. The sample of the study consisted of 110 respondents selected through the simple random sampling technique. The instrument is validated questionnaire and reliability of the instrument was established using Pearson's Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The data obtained for the study were collated and analyzed using frequency count and simple percentages.
Findings revealed that many households prefer firewood for cooking in Ekosodin community because they collect firewood for free. It also show that most of the households use firewood because it is what they can afford. The researcher recommends subsidy on kerosene and LPG by the government so as to make the products affordable and that there should be a legislation that will ensure that the commodity is readily available to consumers and in the right quantity, among others.
