 ABSTRACT

This research work titled ‘Question Formation in Emai language’ is an aspect of syntax of a language that deals with how questions are formed in the language of study. Some key concept like question, question formation, their founder and question transformations were properly discussed. This research work focuses on WH Questions and Yes-No questions or polar and non-polar question in Emai language. For the WH questions, all the questions markers in the language were cited and well explained and analyzed with appropriate diagrams. The Yes-No questions were also worked on and it was discovered that the tones on any given syllable can turn any statement into a question in the language. The language is a tonal language therefore, the tones of each sentence were given appropriately. The method of data collection include the use of primary data collection and the direct observation according to Okolo (2009) 

This research work is done with the Revised Extended Standard Theory (REST) as its frame work and the last chapter which is chapter five, consist of the general summary, findings and conclusion, the major findings of this research work was that each question word or interrogative marker are different from themselves because they work differently and also the Yes-No questions in Emai language deals with tones.
