ABSTRACT

Qualitative Palynofacies analysis was conducted on six (6) ditch cutting samples from the interval 1515ft to 1746ft representing the top section of the Mamu Formation penetrated by OR-WELL in Anambra Basin. Findings show Phytoclast as the dominant that palynomaceral, while Amorphous organic matter and palynomorphs are minimal to non-existent, indicating a preponderance of terrestrial organic matter preserved in the samples (with very little variability across the interval). In addition, ternary plot of % phytoclast, %palynomorph and %amorphous organic matter is suggestive of a shallow water, low salinity, high energy, highly oxic, proximal depositional realm. Furthermore, the dominance of phyotoclast palynomaceral is suggestive of presence of Type III (gas prone) and Type IV kerogen.
