ABSTRACT
The study qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed Banditry reports in Vanguard and Punch Newspaper. The objectives of the study were to examine the degree of reportage by the print media on banditry in Nigeria, the frames, tone of reportage, and how socially responsible are the reports. The theory adopted for the study was the framing theory and agenda setting theory. Qualitative and quantitative research design were used. Using coding sheet and textualization as instruments of data collection. The population of this study were (730) the total number of editions which the punch and vanguard newspaper produced from November, 2020 through November, 2021. While the sample saize were 258. Findings from the study showed that the print media has a comprehensive coverage on banditry in Nigeria. The researcher concluded that Nigerian Newspapers through their reportorial roles gave adequate and proportionate coverage of banditry issues. Based on the findings, it was recommended, among others, that media organizations should post only those with the requisite knowledge to security desk. This will save the media organizations the problem that often arises from the misrepresentation of facts and figures.
