ABSTRACT

The study investigate the strategies for enhancing community participation in funding and management of secondary school in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. The purpose of this study for to find out the contribution of community participation in the funding of secondary school, the contributions of community in the management of secondary schools, what are the challenges faced in community participation in the management of secondary schools, the ways community participation could be enhanced and policies and measures could be initiated by government to increase community participation in the management of secondary schools. The population consist of principals, teachers and community representation of 5 selected schools in Ikpoba Okha with a total population of 398. The sample size of this study was 100 respondent of Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area using a purposive sampling techniques. Five research question were used to guide the study and the mean method was used for data analysis. The finding of this study was to determine the contribution of community participation in the funding of secondary school, the contributions of community in the management of secondary schools, what are the challenges faced in community participation in the management of secondary schools, the ways community participation could be enhanced and policies and measures could be initiated by government to increase community participation in the management of secondary schools. Based on the findings, it is recommended that government at all level; communities and private sectors should make adequate provision for the successful funding, implementation and actualization of secondary school objectives.
