ABSTRACT

The abstract of this project provides a concise overview of the study on public relations and crisis management strategies of the Nigeria Petroleum Development Corporation (NPDC) ;Benin city, Nigeria. The study employs the questionnaire approach to gather data from public relations professionals within NPDC and external stakeholders such as media and community representatives. The quantitative data is analyzed through statistics. The study reveals that NPDC has implemented various public relations strategies, including media relations, community engagement and corporate social responsibility initiatives. However, there are some areas were these strategies can be strengthened, such as enhancing transparency and open communication with stakeholders. Additionally, the study highlights the importance of proactive crisis management, including the establishment of crisis communication protocols and the development of effective crisis response strategies.

The research also identifies specific challenges faced by the NPDC in managing crises, such as the complexity of the petroleum companies, government regulations and stakeholder expectations. Recommendations are provided to address these challenges, including the need for comprehensive crisis communication training for NPDC employees, the establishment of a dedicated crisis management team. Overall, the research contributes to the understanding of public relations strategies and crisis management in the context of the NPDC. The findings and recommendations can serve as a guide for the NPDC and other organizations in the petroleum industry in Nigeria to enhance their public relations efforts and effectively manage crisis.
