PUBLIC PERCEPTION OF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGERIAN POLICE FORCE IN EDO STATE COMMAND

ABSTRACT

The study focuses on assessing the public perception of the performance of the Nigerian Police Force within the Edo State Command. It aims to understand how the general populace perceives the effectiveness, professionalism, and integrity of the police force operating in the region. The study aims to provide insights into the strengths and weaknesses of the Nigerian Police Force in Edo State Command from the perspective of the public. To achieve this, the study employs a qualitative survey on the focus groups. Additionally, qualitative methods like interviews or focus groups allow for in-depth exploration of individuals' experiences, attitudes, and opinions regarding the police force. Our findings underscore a palpable sense of disillusionment and skepticism among certain segments of the population regarding the performance of the Nigerian Police Force. Instances of corruption, abuse of power, and impunity have eroded public trust and confidence in law enforcement institutions, leading to widespread dissatisfaction and resentment. in a concerted and sustained manner, the Nigerian Police Force in Edo State can aspire to rebuild trust, enhance legitimacy, and ultimately fulfill its mandate to serve and protect all citizens with professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
