ABSTRACT
The (wonderful kola) Bucchlozea coricea which was bought from ughene market were subjected to proximate, elemental and phytochemical screening of bucchlozea coricea( wonderful kola).Levels of some nutrients, anti-nutrients and dietary fibre of wonderful kola (Buccholzia coricea) seeds were determined using standard analytical methods.Nitrogen 0.01%, Moisture content 6.62%, Crude fat 26.12%, Carbohydrate 62.61%, Ash content 0.76%, Crude fiber 3.85%. reducing sugar (+), carbohydrate (++), glycosides(+), cardiac glycosides (+), Saponin text (+), flavonoid (++), phenolic compound (++), tannin(-), eugenol(++), steroid(+), terpenoid(+), alkaloid (++). Elemental analysis of the seeds indicated that the dried seeds contained pb(0.00mg/L), Cd(0.00mg/L), Cu(0.00mg/L), Ni(0.00mg/L), Cr(0.01mg/L), Zn(0.24mg/L), Mg(0.83mg/L), Mn(0.42mg/L), Ca(0.50mg/L), Fe(0.90mg/L), Na(3.22mg/L),K(283.84mg/L).These results reveal that these seeds contain appreciable amounts of nutrients especially carbohydrates and proteins with good caloric value and low levels of toxicants and should be included in human diets to supplement our daily allowance needed by the body.
