ABSTRACT
The stability of hematological parameter is essential for the storage of blood in blood bank. The study is set to determine the stability of hematological parameter of blood stored in glycosaminoglycan (isolated sample) obtained from plant source. Blood sample from healthy donor was placed in a plain bottle containing sodium heparin(reference) and isolated anticoagulant (test sample)1ml of each blood of the sample was placed in a full automatic blood cell count. The hematological parameter was determined for a period of four weeks (28days) at a temperature 4 0C. The result for both the reference and sample was subjected to statistical analysis to obtain the p value and standard deviation which was used to explain the stability of hematological parameter. For hemoglobin, granulocyte, platelet and hematocrit there was stability (p>0.05) no significant difference, for lymphocyte there was no significant difference at week three but at week 4 there was significant difference(p<0.05).The monocyte value was significant difference also white blood cell show no significant difference for week two but at week three and four there was a significant difference (p<0.05) Red blood cell was within the normal range in week one and four but show significant difference at week two and three. The study shows stability of hematological parameter for storage of blood, Heparin from plant source shows huge prospect in future for blood banking
