ABSTRACT
The box office in a theatre, cinema, or concert hall is the place where the tickets are sold. When people talk about the box office, they are referring to the degree of success of a film or play in terms of the number of people who go to watch it or the amount of money it makes. The term 'box office' originated in Elizabethan era, when affluent people would sit in private 'boxes' to watch theatre. Tickets for boxes were sold at an 'office', called box office. A significant portion of revenue would come from these tickets as they were costlier.
