ABSTRACT

The study was undertaken to analyze the profitability of processing cassava tuber to garri in Orhionmwon Local Government Area, Nigeria. The population for the study consisted of all small-scale cassava farmers in the sampled LGA. A wellstructured questionnaire was used to collect information from 120 randomly selected small-scale cassava farmers. Out of these, 116 pieces of the administered questionnaires were retrieved and analyzed. The finding showed that 78.41 percent of the farmers are female in their active average age of 50 years with percent of the respondents having no formal education. The objectives of the study were to determine the cost, return and evaluate the profitability of cassava based production in the study area. The business was found to be profitable with total revenue of N340,448.3k, average profit of N54,069.57k and gross margin of N206,250.89k per hectare. The net farm, income was ₦65,670.59. The return on investment was₦1.24kobo. The cassava production is profitable in the study area. This implies that farmer can continue with cassava production in order to increase their source of income. The main constrained faced were inadequate capital, cost of fuel, lack and lack of storage. In conclusion cassava-based production has the potential to be profitable due to its versatility and demand in various industries. However, profitability may be influenced by several factors such as market conditions, production costs, and product quality. Its therefore recommended that before starting the cassava based production, it is essential to research and identify xii potential markets for cassava-based products. Understanding the demand, competition, and pricing in the target market will help in developing effective marketing strategies.
