ABSTRACT

Maize processing plays a major role in food security, income generation, and agricultural sustainability. However, the profitability analysis of maize processing remains under explored in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area (LGA) of Edo State, Nigeria. This study examines the profitability analysis of maize processing into these products, assessing profitability, production constraints, and market.  A two-stage sampling technique was employed to select 120 maize processors across various processing units in the LGA. Structured questionnaire and interviews were utilized to collect data on socio-economic characteristics, cost structures, revenue generation, and constraints faced in maize processing. Descriptive statistics, cost-benefit analysis, and regression models were applied to evaluate the profitability and determinants of maize processing efficiency. Findings reveal that the majority (67%) of maize processors were women, with 72% engaged in small-scale processing. Major constraints identified include high production costs, inadequate access to credit, and poor infrastructure. Regression results showed that access to credit, processing experience, and cooperative membership significantly influence profitability (p<0.05).
