ABSTRACT

The study examined the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in enhancing productivity of secondary school teachers in teaching and learning in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo State. In conducting the study, three research questions were raised and tested. The Instrument adopted was a structured questionnaire “The use of Information and communication technology (ICT) in enhancing productivity of secondary school teachers in teaching and learning in Ikpoba Okha”. The population of the study comprised of sixty-two teachers in the selected 3 public schools in Ikpoba Okha local Government Area, Benin City for the 2021/2022 academic session, while all the sixty-two (62) teachers were used as sample because of the sizeable number of teachers in the selected schools which were not to large for study. Data obtained was analyzed using mean and standard deviation. The reliability of the instrument was ensured by using Cronbach Alpha reliability computation which yielded a co-efficient index of 0.71. The result of the findings indicated that the application of information and communication technology (ICT) in teaching and learning in secondary schools will enhance teachers’ productivity as it helped them to source for resources, prepare lesson notes and creating and keeping of records. Also, its application in the classroom will enhance teachers’ productivity but secondary school teachers are not using ICT for teaching and learning due to the lack of the resources in secondary schools. It is therefore recommended that Government at all levels, corporate bodies, school proprietors and stake holders should help in equipping schools with adequate ICT facilities to support the adoption of ICT in teaching and learning process.
