ABSTRACT

A disinfectant is a chemical agent used on surfaces and inanimate objects to destroy fungi, bacteria, and viruses that can infect but not destroy spores. This work focuses on the production of a disinfectant; Xylenol antiseptic also known as denatured alcohol comprises of ethanol with additives chosen to make it undrinkable. The production was achieved under a serene condition in the laboratory using reagents which includes; Texapon, Pine oil, Distilled water, Phenol, Chloroxylenol, Methanol, Ethanol and Colorant. It is the main antiseptic agent in xylenol antiseptics. It has antibacterial mode of action which makes it to kill germs  and reduce inflammation. In terms of percentage ingredient composition in xylenol antiseptics, it is the largest have 48%. This product can now be used in the laboratory, household and in the hospital setting.
