Abstract
Coconut-coir, a natural fiber, strong and lightweight, abundantly in Edo State, Nigeria, can be an excellent choice to produce polymer composites. Due to the higher specific modulus and durability, these composites have a myriad of applications. This is a study on the investigation of mechanical behavior of coir fiber(grinded)/carbonized bone (grinded)/starch resin composite. Design of Experiment (Mixture Design) using Minitab 17 was carried out to determine the number of experimental runs (in our case 14) and to determine the optimal composite composition by percentage weight and also our optimal result. The composite samples were formulated with distinct weight percentages of coir, carbonized bone and starch resin using the hand-layup technique in a wooden mold and then a uniform compact force was applied on the mold and was allowed to solidify. Flexural test was carried out on the molded sample to ascertain its torsional strength.
