ABSTRACT

The generation of chemicals and fuels from biomass has dramatically improved over the past few decades, and fermentation-derived butanol from corn stover is no exception. Because of dwindling oil reserves and rising levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, biobutanol will replace petroleum as a desirable, affordable, and sustainable fuel. The understanding of the feedstock's structure, pretreatment techniques, and fermentation procedures are essential to analysis of the progress of lignocellulose-based biobutanol production. Strategies for improving strains, detoxifying inhibitors, integrating and optimizing processes, and butanol production from lignocellulosic materials are also discussed.
