Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the the problems undergraduate students face in online learning in Benin city.
A descriptive survey research design was employed in this study. three(3) research questions were raised to guide the study. The target population of the study consist of all undergraduate students in university of Benin ,with sample of two hundred (200) students as respondents using the accidental sampling technique.A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated by the researcher's supervisor and two other experts in the Department of Educational Management ; while the test- re test reliability method was adopted to ascertain the reliability of the instrument. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation.
The study reveals that Online learning platform such as Zoom, Facebook, and Twitter was not used to receive lectures , the most preferred online platforms to receive lectures by the students are WhatsApp and Telegram, the factors that triggered social interaction platform adoption by the students include; uncover outline,academic calendar, students retention, time management, and achievement of academic goals, the problems students encountered in online learning include;lack of electricity , no internet connection , mobile phone used in learning sometimes cause distraction , some platform do not store information for new comers and that lack of fund to buy enough data for online class. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations were made for the study:Lecturers should make used of other online platform such as Zoom and Facebook , in other not to depend on only WhatsApp, the need of students should also be consider as a factors that triggered online learning, government should provide free WiFi for students and teachers to engage in online learning platform such as WhatsApp, Zoom, and telegram.
