ABSTRACT

This study focuses on Problems of Service delivery in Selected Primary Healthcare Centres in Egor and Oredo Local Governments Areas, Edo State, Nigeria. Majority of the primary healthcare centres are supposed to be centres of medical excellence but the present condition of these facilities is a reflection of governments’ lackadaisical attitude towards public health in terms of neglect. The findings revealed amongst others that: There are so many problems facing service deliver in the local government which are: there are no equipment/facilities, unconducive work environment amongst others, the causes to the problems are: Government insensitivity to the welfare of the staff, delay in workers’ salary, corruption of our leaders, lack of financial resources on the part of the community members to patronize the health centres amongst others. The study therefore recommends that: The authorities concern should provide the necessary equipment/facilities as this will encourage the staff to work. Payment of staff salary should be prompt and timely. The government and the authorities concern should monitor the activities of staff as it will make them work harder. There should be recruitment of more staff where there are shortages of manpower and work environment should be made conducive.
