ABSTRACT
The study assessed the problems of adult Literacy delivery in Egor local government area. Five research questions were raised to guide the study. The survey research design method was adopted for the study. A sample size of 100 respondents drawn using simple random sampling technique were used for data collection in the study. A self designed questionnaire using a modified Likert scale method made up of a four point rating scale of Strongly Agreed (SA), Agreed (A), Disagreed (D) and Strongly Disagreed (SD) was the instrument used for collecting data. The instrument was pilot tested on a sample of 20 respondents for reliability. The correlation coefficient of the instrument was found to be 0.80. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive analysis which includes frequency count and simple percentage. The findings of the study revealed that Egor local government do not have adequate resources for effective teaching and learning by adults in the programmes, the environment was found not to be conducive enough for the effective delivery of adult literacy programmes, and most of the respondents were of the opinion that finance is a major problem in the adult literacy programmes delivery. The conclusion revealed that there have been problems hindering the adult literacy delivery in Egor local government area. The recommendation given was that government and non-governmental organizations should ensure that adult literacy centres are equipped with adequate and updated learning resources. This will help to boost the academic performance of adult learners, the facilitators should ensure that the environment is conducive enough for learning and also government and NGO,s should contribute more to the adult Literacy education programmes. More financial support should be given to assist with the expenses on providing the programme among others.
