ABSTRACT

The inquiry of secondary school biology teaching issues in Oredo LGA, Edo State, Four research questions guided its descriptive survey study design. It investigated if biology teachers in Oredo Local Government Area's academic qualifications affect their teaching. Do poor instructional materials impair biology instruction? Does low pay and late pay deter biology teachers? Can biology be taught in a good environment?

Twenty biology students from 10 public schools in Oredo Local Government Area of Edo State were sampled for the study. The researcher used a questionnaire titled "Problems inhibiting the effective teaching of Biology in Secondary Schools" to collect data. The survey has 13 questions. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics such simple percentage and frequency.

The study found that Oredo LGA biology teachers' academic qualifications affect their teaching. The result is that teachers' inability to use instructional materials contributes to poor performance.  Effective teaching takes more than just knowing the content; it demands using instructional materials. Parents should improve their attitude toward schooling and support their children's schoolwork at home by communicating with teachers to find out how they're doing in class. School authorities and education stakeholders should intensify supervision and institute incentive packages. Parents, teachers, and school officials should encourage pupils to improve academically.
