ABSTRACT

This study examines the problems facing cassava production and preservation and it’s implication on food security in Ovia North-East Local government Area in Edo State. The data were collected from 29 cassava farmers and extension agencies in Ovia North-East LGA Edo state. 29 respondents were selected using simple random sampling ad questionnaire was administered to them. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. The instrument was validated by 3 experts from the department of Vocational and Technical Education (VTE), Faculty of Education. The findings of this study revealed that there are various factors affecting cassava product in Ovia North-East Local Government Area which are problems of pest and disease, unpredictable climate conditions. This study also revealed that poor storage facilities, poor fermentation method, unavailability and accessibility of facilities are the various factors affecting cassava a processing and preservation in Ovia North-East LGA. It also stated the implications of the problems facing cassava production and preservation in food security and the role played by government in improving cassava production, processing and preservation in Ovia North-East Local government Area in Edo State.
