ABSTRACT
The study investigated the problems problems faced by teachers in teaching in some selected secondary schools in Ovia North-east local government area of Edo state.To achieve the purpose of the study, five research questions were raised and examined. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of this study comprises of teachers in some selected secondary schools in Ovia North-east local government area of Edo state: Oluku secondary school, Idia college, Ekosodin secondary school. Data was collected from 90(ninety) respondents randomly selected from these selected schools.The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. An analysis of data was done using tables and simple percentage. The findings from the study revealed that drama teachers encounter a significant amount of challenge while teaching drama in secondary schools in Ovia North-east Local Government Area of Edo state. Factors such as lack of resources, costumes and props; lack of support from the government and the school management, low level of exposure to mentorship training has become a challenge for teaching drama in secondary schools.It was concluded that these significant challenges has posed as barriers faced by teachers in teaching drama to students in secondary schools and thus, must be addressed. The study among others recommended that the provision of adequate resources, costumes and props for drama classes should be made available to the drama teachers to make teaching of drama smooth for the teachers and relatable to the students. In addition, the government and school management are advised to be supportive to the drama teachers as it is a good medium to the effective teaching of drama in secondary schools.
