ABSTRACT
The study was carried to examine the problems encountered by past student teachers during teaching practice exercise using University of Benin, Benin City. To achieve this ultimate goal four research questions were stated to guide this study. The data was collected from primary sources. The primary data were collected with the help of a well-structured questionnaire of two sections administered to past students’ teachers of selected Department in the Faculty of Education, University of Benin, Benin City. The collected data were analyzed with tables and simple percentages to analyze the research questions. All data were coded using SPSS software. The study reveals that lack of support by host teachers affect student teachers performance; the attitude of students affect the performance of student teachers; the learning climate of the school affect student teachers performance and accommodation problem affect student teachers performance. The study concluded with some recommendations that the government should provide finance inform of stipend for trainee teachers and teachers engaged in teaching practice programme.
