ABSTRACT
This study was undertaken to examine the problems and prospects of teaching history in secondary schools in Ovia North east Local government area of Edo state. The purpose of this study is to ascertain if the lack of qualified teachers, contributes to the students and teachers' lack of interest in the study of history, to determine if the lack of instructional materials affects the teaching and learning of history, to find out if the lack of interest on the part of the students affects the teaching of history, to determine if the lack of incentives for history teachers affects the teaching of history and to make recommendations on possible solutions to the problems affecting the teaching of history. A descriptive research design was adopted for the study.
