ABSTRACT
The main purpose of the study is to investigate the problems and possible solutions of teaching / learning computer science in Senior Secondary Schools in Edo state. The usefulness of computer in this new age can never be over looked. In other to direct the study two research question were raised: What are the major problems of teaching and learning computer science in Senior Secondary Schools in Ovia North East Local Government Area?, How can such problems be tackled? The research population comprises of male and female students drawn from the three selected secondary schools and the unit of the population shall be one hundred (100) students drawn from the three schools. Questionnaires were used to collect information from computer science from three different schools. The questionnaire was made up of the likert scale questionnaire. A total of hundred (100) was used for this study. Those are some the finding gotten from the study, use of instructional material makes learning easier, teachers get more motivation to teach when their salary is encouraging, workshop and seminar are very important to both teachers and students on how to use computer science, teacher’s need more facility to perform better, students should visit the computer laboratory at close intervals. The following conclusions were reached, that facilities of basic computer resources in teaching computer science affects teaching and learning of computer science. However high percentage of student agreed that have accepted that funding of computer facilities from either personal or government will affect effective teaching and learning in computer science.
