ABSTRACT
This study examines the problematic internet usage and cyberbullying as determinants of library and information science students’ academic performance. The study focuses on problematic internet usage and cyberbullying as determinants of library and information science students’ academic performance in AAU and UNIBEN. The research design used in the study was a descriptive survey. Descriptive statistics that were also used to assess the data that was gathered. The study shows the influence of internet addition disorder on LIS students’ academic performance in Ambrose Ali University and University of Benin. This study also reveals the influence of social media addition on LIS students’ academic performance in Ambrose Ali University and University of Benin, The influence of online gaming disorder on LIS students’ academic performance in Ambrose Ali University and University of Benin, the influence of online harassment on LIS students’ academic performance in Ambrose Ali University and University of Benin, the influence of online public shaming on LIS students’ academic performance in Ambrose Ali University and University of Benin, the influence of online impersonation on LIS students’ academic performance in Ambrose Ali University and University of Benin. Based on the findings, it was recommended that undergraduate students should endeavour to engage in outdoor activities to curb loneliness which is mostly the cause of excessive internet usage, the internet can be very addicting if proper measures are not put in place to curb the usage which could lead to a major setback in their academics, a timetable can be structured as regarding the use of internet each day so as to be more productive, students should always have it at the back of their mind that their academic success is the main reason why they are in school, with this mindset, students can stay more focus without getting distracted by the internet, students should endeavour to develop a healthy self-esteem so as to deter any form of cyberbullying.
