PROBLEM AND PROSPECT OF IMPLEMENTING THE EDO STANDARD ORTHOGRAPHY IN FORMAL WRITING

ABSTRACT
With much controversies on the issue and problems of Edo Orthography so far, a total of forty different letters of the alphabet have been identified. These are twenty-five (25) monographs and fifteen (15) diagraphs.
Unfortunately no two or more scholars have maintained the same
alphabetical order so far.
The monographs are: Aa Bb Dd Ee Ee Ff Gg Hh Li Jj Kk Il Jk Kk Ll Mm Nn Oo Oo Pp Rr Ss Tt Uu Vv Ww Yy Zz.
The diagraphs are gb gh kh kp mw rr rh vb nw ny an en in on un.
As for the English twenty-six (26) letters of the alphabet, the number and alphabetical order had never changed. They are; a b c d e f g h I j k l m n o p q r s t u v w x y z.
The plea is that scholars should with sincerity, open mind and love, review the orthography, and come out with the simplest number of letters and alphabetical order acceptable to all in the shortest or earliest possible time.
