ABSTRACT
Child molestation is a growing public health threats with health, academic and psychosocial implications. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence, pattern of child molestation among primary school in Benin metropolis.
The study employed the descriptive research design and the population comprised all teachers in public and private primary schools in Benin metropolis. The sample was 50 teachers selected through purposive sampling technique. The instrument for the study was a questionnaire designed by the researcher.
The result indicated that majority of respondents had good knowledge of child molestation. majority of the respondents 35 (70%)are between the ages of 30-39 and are mostly single. most of the perpetrators were Relatives 42 (84%). A higher proportion of ages mostly affected are 38 (76) 7-9 years. This study revealed a high prevalence of child molestation among primary school pupils.
Based on the findings, It was recommended that parents, teachers and government should create enough awareness on child molestation for the child and also learn more about molestation so as to give adequate knowledge. Education and legislative policies should be implemented to educate parents and Educationist.
