ABSTRACT
This study investigated the prevalence of child abuse among children in Benin City, Edo State. To achieve the purpose of the study, four research questions were raised and examined. The sample size for the study was made up of 100 drawn from 20 pre-primary schools in Benin Metropolis. The questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. An analysis of data was done using mean score and standard deviation. The findings from the study include that sexual, emotional and psychological abuse constitute some of the various forms of child abuse mostly experienced by children in Benin City. It was concluded that there is a high level of prevalence of child abuse among children in Benin City. The study recommended that classroom teachers and school councilors should advice pupils parents/guidance to avoid acts that will result in child abuse. It was also recommended that government should ensure that laws that protect the rights of children are fully implemented with all sincerity.
