BACKGROUND: Burnout refers to feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion, increased mental distance from one’s job or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to one’s job, and reduced personal efficacy. Since medical education is a long and emotionally tasking journey, medical students are prone to burnout due to the demanding nature of training and this has a negative impact on the academics and personal life of the students which can continue into their professional life. Burnout of medical students is important because it can also lead to burnout after they become doctors which may result in unprofessionalism, poor quality of patient care, medical errors and suicidal ideation.
