ABSTRACT

This study delves into the complex world of film music, specifically focusing on the interplay between film music and the pragmatics of folk music in Nollywood cinema, as exemplified by Tunde Kelani's "Saworoide." Through qualitative content analysis, the research uncovers the profound cultural and emotional dimensions woven into the use of folk music, elucidating how the characters in the film engage with and interpret this music, thereby enhancing the narrative's cultural depth. The study emphasizes the pivotal role of pragmatics in deciphering implicit cultural connotations embedded in the folk music, shedding light on the intricate relationship between language, culture, and music within the cinematic context. It recommends incorporating film and folk music into educational curricula to enhance cultural awareness, encourage interdisciplinary research, and promote the integration of these findings.
