ABSTRACT
This study investigated practicum in Home Economics as it is a panacea to skill acquisition for University students in Edo State. Four research questions were raised to guide the study. The design adopted for this study is the survey research design. The sample consisted of 113 students basically from Home Economics Department. Questionnaires were used for the collection of data from 113 (one hundred and thirteen) respondents which were basically students. The research instrument was validated by the researcher’s supervisor. The test re-test method was adopted in testing the reliability of the instrument after which the research instruments were administered by the researcher himself. The data obtained were analyzed using mean and standard deviation.
Findings revealed that practicum in home economics has serves as a panacea to skill acquisition for University students in Edo state. Findings also revealed that the primary skills gained by the university of Benin students is through practicum experiences in home economics.
Based on the findings, it was recommended that the government and the university administrators should ensure the recruitment of adequately qualified manpower (lecturers). It was also recommended that government should ensure the implementation of identified strategies for enhancing practical in home economics and other Occupational Skills need for entrepreneurship in the Universities.
