ABSTRACT
Drilling of oil and gas wells are often carried out in more challenging environments as more petroleum is being produced. Lost circulation is one of the biggest issues faced by the drilling industry and major progress has been and still is being made to combat this problem. However, as a lot of the products and guidelines available for combating lost circulation are usually biased towards advertisement for a particular service company, this study has been made to develop practical guidelines that are general and unbiased which will also serve as a quick reference guide for lost circulation prevention and control at the well-site for drilling personnel. This study discusses recent developments used in the mitigation of lost circulation, which include the use of lost circulation materials and some other alternative approaches in use today.
