ABSTRACT
This study was carried out with the aim to examine politics and management of sustainable development goals in Nigeria using Oredo Local Government Area, Edo state as a case study. In order to actualize the objectives of the study, various literature and theoretical issues were discussed. The instrument used for the purpose of this research was the primary research instrument (questionnaire). The mass of information generated from the questionnaires was summarized in form of table and analyzed using sample percentage. The researcher administered one hundred (200) questionnaires to respondents, out of which same number (200) were retrieved for the purpose of presenting and analyzing responses to issues raised in the questionnaires. The hypotheses were tested using the regression analysis statistical tool. The findings from the analysis revealed among other things that; political apathy has affected the election credibility in Nigeria; election credibility influences sustainable development in Nigeria; factors that lead to political apathy includes perception that their vote and those of others do not count during elections, votes are rigged hence no need for voting, lack of trust in government, elections are prone to crisis hence they do not vote, and electoral process lacks transparency; and that solutions for curbing electoral apathy includes abolition of partisan politics, reduction of ethnic bigotry, transparency in elections and reduction in violence and electoral crisis. The study recommends amongst others that; long-term strategies should be developed by the electoral commission to enhance transparency in the electoral process and elections should be free from crisis, effectively secured and free from all forms of corruptions and social vices.
