ABSTRACT
This research project delves into the intricate tapestry of political culture among University students in Edo State, Nigeria. Amidst the dynamic socio-political landscape of Nigeria, the political beliefs, attitudes and behaviour of young adults attending institution of higher learning plays a pivotal role in shaping the nation’s political future. The study aims to explore the multifaceted dimensions of political culture within the specific demographic. Drawing upon a comprehension review of existing literature on political culture and the experience of University Students, this research employs a mixed-method approach, combining surveys in-depth interviews, to gather empirical data. The study scrutinizes the diverse ideological spectrum, political engagement levels, and the impact of socio-cultural factors on the political identities of Edo State’s University students. Preliminary findings reveal a rich and nuanced landscape of political thought and action among this cohort, influenced by historical narratives, regional dynamics and global trends. The project also sheds light on the role of educational institutions in fostering civic awareness and social responsibility. In conclusion, this project strives to contribute to the broader discourse on political culture and youth engagement in Nigeria, emphasizing the agency and potential impact of University students in shaping the future of Edo State and the nation as a whole.
