ABSTRACT

The socio-political situation of Nigeria is one that explains the lack of growth and development that is seen in Nigeria. Since independence, Nigeria continues to grapple with one form of bad leadership or another. The geometric increase in corruption in places of government is seen in the embezzlement of public funds. This decay in politics and government becomes the concern of poets of the post independence era. Tanure Ojaide is one poet whose works are a critique of bad governance. His collection of poetry The Fate of Vultures and other Poems is a response to corruption and bad governance and a message to the masses to stand up against these bad leaders so as to force through the much needed change in the society. Anger for Ojaide, is therefore a veritable tool in combating corrupt and oppressive leadership.
