ABSTRACT

Irvingia gabonensis (Bush Mango) tree is a multipurpose tree that provides food, fuel, fibre, medicine and timber. In this research the phytochemical properties of the ethanol and methanolic extracts of the seed of irvingia gabonensiswas anayzed as well as the proximate analysis of the ethanolic extract of the seed. Results rom this study shows that the ethanolic extract of irvingia gabonensis seed contains phytochemicals like alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, eugenols and carbohydrate while the methanolic extract contains alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, steriods, eugenols and carbohydrate. This study also records the moisture content of this seed to have a mean value of 5.153as well as the ash content (2.32), lipid content (58.95), crude fibre (7.13), crude protein (10.26) and nitrogen free extract (21.34).
