ABSTRACT
Mojeaga herbal remedy is a polyherbal herbal remedy derived from three plants used to treat anaemia and boost the immune system. The primary composition of the product includes Alchornea cordifolia, Sorghum bicolor and Pennisetum glaucum. The present study is aimed at investigating the phytochemistry, proximate analysis and vitamins composition of the herbal remedy. This was done by determining the Carbohydrate present, moisture content, Ash content, Crude fibre, crude fat, crude proteins Estimation of Vitamin A, B6, B12,B3, B1,B2,C and D. The evaluation was carried out to assess the potential health benefits and overall nutritional composition of this traditional herbal preparation. For the nutritional evaluation, the proximate analysis revealed essential components such as moisture content (7.95%), fat content (3.76%), ash content (6.21%), fiber content (9.50%), protein (10.15%), and carbohydrate content (62.43%). Moreover, the analysis of vitamins indicated significant quantities of Vitamin A (7.25 mg/kg), Vitamin E (14.33 mg/kg), Vitamin C (60.43 mg/kg), and Vitamin D (1.21 mg/kg) in the herbal remedy, suggesting its potential as a natural source of essential vitamins. Flavonoids and alkaloids were found to be abundant, while saponins, cardiac glycosides, phytate, cyanogenic glycosides, tannins, oxalate, anthocyanin, and steroids were present in moderate quantities. These phytochemicals are known for their potential health-promoting properties, such as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective effects. The high presence of vitamins and phytochemicals suggests that Mojeaga herbal remedy showed a promising potential as a functional food with various health benefits. However, further comprehensive investigations, including clinical trials and safety assessments, are warranted to fully establish its efficacy and safety for human consumption. With the growing interest in natural remedies, the findings from this evaluation contribute to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of Mojeaga herbal remedy as a valuable and potentially beneficial addition to the field of complementary medicine.
