ABSTRACT
Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack, is a small tropical evergreen shrub with numerous uses in traditional medicine for treatment of abdominal pain, diarrhea, stomach ache, headache, edema, thrombosis, and blood stasis. The present study was carried out to determine the phytochemical constituents present in the methanol extract of Murraya paniculata leaves.The phytochemicals present were determined using standard methods, Gas chromatography- Mass spectrometry and High performance liquid chromatography. Phytochhemical analysis revealed the presence of secondary metabolites, which includes alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, triterpenoids, phenols and saponins. The GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of sixteen bioactive compounds which includes 2-Methoxy -4-vinylphenol, Dimethyl 6-methoxyquinolinate, Tetrabromophthalimide, 1-(3’,5’Dibromo-4’-hydroxyphenyl)-5,5-dibromo-2,4- dioxohexahydropyrimidine, Cyclopropanecarboxamide, 2-phenyl-N-(tetrahydrofuran-2- ylmethyl)-, 2-Propenamide, 3-phenyl-N-propyl-, 2H-Quinoline-1-carboxylic acid, 6-(3— fluoro-2-methylphenylsulfamoyl)-3,4-dihydro-,methyl ester,Isoquinoline,6,7,8-trimethoxy- ,Isoquinoline, 3,4-dihydro-6,7-dimethoxy-1-methyl-,4-Nitrocinnamaldehyde, 2-1-phenyl ethylidene-hydrazono-3-methyl-2,3-dihydrobenzothiazole, Benzaldehyde, 4-methyl-, oxime, (Z)-,Trans-2,3-Methylenedioxy-b-methyl-b-nitrostyrene,2-Nitro-4-(trifluoromethyl)phenol, Ethanimidamide, 2-chloro-N-(2-chlorobenzenesulfonyloxy)-, 3-Isopropoxy-1,1,1,5,5,5- hexamethyL-3-(trimethylsiloxy)trisiloxane. The HPLC analysis of alkaloids revealed the presence of benzamide class of alkaloid with a concentration of 29.52743 ng/µl. Based on the experimental results, the leaf extract of Murraya paniculata possesses various phytochemical constituents with reported biological activity and can be a prerequisite for future research.
