ABSTRACT
Sediment acts as a holding area for contaminants, making it a possible source of pollution for the water column, creatures, and ultimately humans that ingest those organisms. Benthic and other species linked with the sediment can be affected by contaminated sediment in a fatal and sublethal way. Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in the aquatic ecosystem is a source of concern for environmental and public health due to the adverse effects. The concentration of PAHs found in the sediments are cancerous even in their minutest forms. The contamination of the sediments by these Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons are of human origin and measures should be taken to curb the activities leading to the contamination.
