ABSTRACT
This research work was carried out study to assess the utilization and challenges of information and communication technology for clinical skills among nursing students of University of Benin teaching Hospital, Benin City. The study was outlined into five chapters. Chapter one of this study dealt with the introduction of the topic, statement of problem, objectives of the study, research questions, hypotheses and scope of study, the significance of the study and operational definition of terms. Relevant literature was reviewed in chapter two on the subject under discourse; theoretical framework and empirical review of related studies were also discussed in this chapter. Chapter three dealt with research methodology which adopted the descriptive cross-sectional design and convenience sampling technique was used to select participants from 100 to 300 level in the University of Benin teaching Hospital School of Nursing. A self-constructed questionnaire was used as instrument of data collection based on the research objectives. Analysis and interpretation of data were discussed in chapter four, tables with percentage represented information while testing of hypothesis was done using chi-square test of association. Findings of this study showed that majority of the respondents in this study have moderate level of utilisation, less than half have high level of utilization of ICT, while less than one third have low level of utilization of information and communication technology. Also, majority of the students own a smartphone/android phone, have a social media account and also made use of email/gmail for receiving and sending messages. Furthermore, the most common challenges faced by students in utilizing ICT were Expensive internet subscription, Lack of ICT facilities, Slow/poor internet speed and Electricity problem.
