ABSTRACT

The research was carried out to determine the physicochemical parameters of anthill soil. The physicochemical methods were used to enumerate the physicochemical constituent in anthill soil and its adjacent. The distribution and frequency of the parameters were evaluated using statistical method. From the result, pH of the residential soil sample ranged from 6.0 to 6.3, its adjacent samples ranges from 6.4 to 6.6, the institutional sample also ranges from 6.4 to 6.6 and its adjacent ranges from 6.48 to 6.8. potassium content was low in all samples. It ranges from 5.23-6.32 in residential area and 2.87 to 5.11 in its adjacent and also 2.87 to6.12 in the institutional samples. Soil Organic Carbon (Ca) ranged from 0.18 to 0.37 in the residential area and 0.11 to 0.27 in the adjacent sample of anthill soil. Also the institutional sample of anthill soil ranges in Carbon value from 0.11 to 0.32. Particle size was dominated by sand, followed by clay and then silt, which revealed coarse soils with low supply of nutrients and moisture. The highest sandy value was obtained in residential adjacent soil with value of 96, and the highest clay was obtained in institutional sample with value of 5.68 while the highest silt was obtained in institutional soil with value of 2.16. Thus the activities of ant in anthill soil plays an important role in the texture of the soil thereby enabling easy nutrient breakdown and permeability for water, however there may be a releases of toxins from this ants to the soil which could also be detrimental to the soil.
