ABSTRACT
The project, “permanent magnet synchronous generator for wind energy conversion using the MPPT and the pitch angle control”, involves a thorough insight on the exploration of economic feasibility of the wind energy using control strategy to create more reliable and sustainable power supply. This work involves data analysis of renewable energy systems in practice and reasonable adjustment to be made, different from the traditional method of wind energy system. Previous works on permanent magnet synchronous generator for wind energy conversion were reviewed, considering the suitable practices and challenges on the respective projects. Evaluation was carried out on other renewable energy such as solar and hydro-electric energy. Analysis of data of the Fujian wind farm in China and Katsina wind farm, where some specifications and parameters were extracted to implement this project, was carried out. The design of the wind energy conversion process was carried out, taking all parameters into consideration, by creating a simulation model to examine the working operations of the permanent magnet synchronous generator for wind energy conversion. Finally, the conclusion was drawn from the final results and observations in the course of the project. For the capacity of the wind energy system recommended, 6m/s was observed as the base speed which exhibited a stable power supply at stable frequency of 50Hz. This project will serve as a model for a more efficient, sustainable and reliable renewable energy system which will be connected to the national grid for steady power supply.
