ABSTRACT

This research project aims to conduct an investigative study into selected e-Commerce websites in Nigeria through the use of an automated tool-based approach to evaluate their performance. The problem this research looks to solve is the standardization issue associated with Nigerian e- Commerce websites given that the top Nigerian e-Commerce websites do not nearly meet up to global standards. The research uses an automated tool-based approach and uses Google PageSpeed Insights and WebPageTest as the evaluation tools. The parameters considered for this research were LCP, FID, CLS, FCP TTFB and TBT. The used parameters provide a look into the web vitals of the selected e-Commerce websites. From the top-eCommerce websites in Nigeria, the selected websites were Jumia, Konga and AjeboMarket. In the end, findings prove that performance issues really do exist in these Nigerian e-commerce websites and as a result, these issues play a big part in the standardization problem. There is therefore a need for developers and company owners alike to make necessary optimization changes in order to enhance web vital results. This research provides another way through which the Nigerian e-Commerce industry can continue its attempt to bridge the already existing gap it faces in the global market.
