ABSTRACT
Emigration of nursing personnel is a critical issue that impacts the healthcare system,particularly in tertiary health institutions.As healthcare systems worldwide face the challenges of a global nursing shortage and the migration of nurses to foreign countries,understanding the consequences of this phenomenum on service delivery is of utmost importance. This research study was conducted to comprehensively investigate the percieved influence of nursing personnel emigation on service delivery among nurses in a tertiary health institution. The study employed a descriptive cross-sectional survey research design, a well-structured questionnaire was used to collect data from 283 registered nurses working in selected wards/unit of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital using a multistage sampling technique.A well structured checklist developed by the researcher and validated by the researcher’s supervisor was also used to collect secondary data from cummulative records gotten from the Administrative in the tertiary health institution.Chi-square statistics was used to test the hypotheses of this study. This study sheds light on the various dimensions of the percieved influence of nursing personnel emigration including the effects on workload,quality of service delivery and human management resoursce strategies in place to curb this impact.This study concluded that the impact of nurses emigration is poor quality of nursing care rendered and the human resource management strategies( e.g good working conditions, better pay and use of incentives ) to curb the emigration of nurses are not in place in the hospitals,It also provided evidence-based recommendations for health care institutions and policy makers to improve service delivery,retain nursing personnel and ensure provision of high quality healthcare services in tertiary health institutions.
