ABSTRACT

This research work assesses perception of the role of business education in Nigeria economy (a case study of university of Benin undergraduate).

The design used for this study was a descriptive survey design. Five (5) research questions were raised for the purpose of this research work. The research instrument used was the closed-ended questionnaire. A sample size of One Hundred and Ninety-Eight (198) respondents were used. Purposive sampling technique was used to select all the members of the population for the study. The questionnaire was personally administered to the respondents by the researcher. Information gathered from the questionnaire was analyzed using the mean and standard deviation method. From the analysis, it was discovered that business education transforms the Nigerian economy, equip students with skills, abilities and values for self-reliance, prepares students to take up paid jobs and employment in the civil service, that poor trading, obsolete technologies, qualification and qualities of teachers and large class lead poor growth and development of the Nigeria economy.

Based on the findings, it was recommended that Government, school proprietors, donor agencies and all stakeholders should join hands in providing funds for education so as to ensure that necessary facilities are provided and maintained. This will greatly improve the standard of education (Business education) in Nigeria, that teacher's remuneration should be enhanced beyond what it is presently.
