ABSTRACT

The study examined the perception of the Elderly by Youth in Okhoro Community in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State, Nigeria. The study adopted a cross sectional design with mixed method approach that used both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The population of the study was One Thousand Three Hundred and Nine with an age range from 18 years to 51 years. A sample size of the 390 participants was adopted in the Study. The study established that despite the gap in age and experience between the aged and the youths sustainable cordial relationship and participation in community activities can help to increase the happiness of the aged and hence prolong their lives and the youths will also find peace and fulfillment in helping the aged. It was recommended that the process of aging should be part of General Studies in the tertiary, secondary and primary school levels and some elements of aging process should be incorporated in the school syllabuses so that the students can better appreciate and respect the aged. It was also recommended that at the community level, senior citizens should be involved in some generational extra-curricular activities with the youths.
