ABSTRACT
Background:The dearth of accurate knowledge and proper implementation of sexuality education is a significant predicament in an age where the proliferation of misinformation through the internet and the influence of peer pressure are formidable challenges.
Aim: To assess the perception of parents, teachers and students on sexuality education in secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area and to explore solutions to identified problems.
Method: An analytical cross-sectional study was done among 623 students, 16 teachers and 16 parents in secondary schools in Egor Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State. Quantitative study was done among the students using self-administered questionnaire and qualitative studies among the parents and teachers using key informant interviews and focused group discussions. Respondents were selected using multi-stage sampling technique. Data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25. P value=≤ 0.05. Qualitative data was audio-recorded and then transcribed verbatim. The key categories/themes were identified, and data were summarized under appropriate categories based on the objectives of the study.
